Maria V. hammond, Ph.D.
Dr. Maria Hammond has focused her training, research, and clinical practice on the areas of communication delay, developmental differences, and parent-child relationships. Dr. Hammond graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in psychology and journalism. She then earned a M.A. from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in behavioral science, focusing on maternal attachment and the biological basis of behavior in young children. It was at this point in her training when Dr. Hammond began to understand the importance of considering the whole child in treatment, which includes biological, developmental, environmental, and family pieces. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston. Dr. Hammond did her research training at the now Children’s Learning Institute, University of Texas Health Science Center, and completed her post doctoral training at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Hammond worked 10 years at The Parish School and earned the 2019-2020 Robbin Parish Award. She is a native Houstonian and has also lived in Paris, New York City, and travelled extensively in Latin America. She earned a degree from Parson’s School of Design, The New School, in addition to her studies in psychology. Art is an integral part of her work with children and families.
